How can I get the most out of my dues?
The thing about dues is that the money goes towards all of these Key Club member benefits... that most Key Clubbers don't take advantage of! Change that this year by making sure to do the most to use KCI's resources. Here's how:- Read the Keynoter. The Keynoter is the KCI magazine. It arrives to your mailbox every other month; the other months, it comes via email, so make sure to look out for it! It's full of information for you. You can also access the Keynoter from the KCI website.
- Apply for Scholarships. Money from dues is set aside for scholarships that you should apply to! Most are exclusively for seniors, but there are other great opportunities such as the AYUSA study abroad program that you can look into as well. Click here to download the Key Club Scholarship Booklet.
- Apply for awards at DCON. You and/or your club could get spiffy trophies and plaques!
- Apply for the Youth Opportunities Fund. This fund has over $50,000 in it and grants that range from $200-$2000 are given to various Key Clubs to help implement projects. There is so much money available but you can't get it if you don't apply! Only seven applications were recieved for the 2006-2007 year! That's CRAZY! APPLY!
- Get free resources from KCI! There are so many great promotional items such as posters and other resources to help you plan, implement, and evalute goals, projects, fundraisers, and so much more! And the best part is that it's ALL FREE! Just call 1.800.KIWANIS and place your order today!
- Go to Fall Rally, DCON, and ICON. Part of your dues goes to insurance coverage for these events, so you might as well go! Plus, you are given access to so much information about projects, etc. and free training is offered for various positions.
- Vote. A portion of the district dues ($4) is used for board meetings and portioned between the district officers for things such as directories, trainings, rallies, etc. The people you vote for at DCON and ICON are the ones that use this money, so vote and have a say in who spends that money!
- Communicate with your LTG and District Board! As I said in number 7, I have a budget ($250 for October-March) to use for divisional events, resources, etc. So if you want something, ASK! I use the money for you! But if you don't talk to me, I don't know what you need and I won't be able to get it for you!
- Use the KCI website. The website has so many great resources for you and there are other online benefits such as a community forum and updates.
- Be proud. Flaunt that Key Club membership card and your pin! Put your Keynoters with your Seventeen magazines. You are part of the oldest, largest, and greatest community service organization in THE WORLD! And that makes you amazing. =]
